A mother’s love is something we can never recreate. No matter how honest-to-god we are it is human nature for us to fulfill this need of acceptance and belongingness. Throughout “ I Stand Here Ironing” a young mother is go forth with no survival of the fittest but to give up her daughter. Without the proper resources to raise her, Emily is left in the hands of those who can provide her with a to a greater extent suitable environment. But there is one thing miss from this proper environment, love. Without her mother, Emily is left to spend her younger years without the constitution of true bonds, those bound by love.
When Emily is finally returned home she begins her anticipate for her mother’s affection, something that she isn’t sure will last. idolise of abandonment leaves Emily struggling to form a secure connector with her mother. “She always had a reason why she should stay home. florists chrysanthemum, you locution sick, Momma. I feel sick. Momma, the teachers aren’t there today, they’re sick. Momma we can’t go, there was a fire there last night. Momma, it’s a holiday, no school they told me” (pg. 71). The coseismal nature of her and her mother’s relationship left Emily in a state where she experienced unrequited love.
