The Whip-slam
I often wonder what is it about espial fish and what goes into the sport which I enjoy so much. I get up early in the daybreak in the lead the slightest light appears on the horizon; or the dark wickedness is black as coal and the stars shine like glimmer dust in the night sky. I walk bandaging into the house, go to each bedroom and try to wake the children from a deep slumbering sleep. I realize without a doubt, it will non go as planned. Consequently, I decide to load the truck with my fishing gear and set off on my own.
The morning time sky at 4:15 in the morning is still brilliant with stars. I see no signs of the easterly horizon begin to start the morning journey of getting lighter. I have made my stops for goodies, gas and icing the puck for the cooler.
Driving on Highway 26 at 4:30 in the morning is very peaceful. The windows are distribute and the cool air is rushing into the cab. I can tone fresh cut sweet alfalfa hay and scented flowers in the night air. The smell of abundant cedar trees soften through the cab of the truck as I sack through a long narrow stretch of highway. On the last several miles, the road begins to curve and slope in different directions. The speed of the vehicle slows to a crawl as I make turns to the right and left.
It reminds me of hiking a trail up a mountain knowing the end might be just around the corner. Suddenly, I study water from a creek which runs parallel to the highway.
I finally arrive at Vernonia Lake. The eastern horizon is just beginning to expose signs of light.
I gather my fishing gear and begin a short walk to my favorite spot. I can hear myself clattering, clanking and banging on the path. It sounds like a similarity fuller brush man paying a bawl out to the lake offering brushes and pans for sale. Still dark, I am glad no one sees me. If anyone did see me, all they would have seen is a large black blob moving at snail speed.
