Initially Holden suffered the negative effect of neglect, isolation and alienation from his family, friends and women. His father was work-orientated and his mother had always been distant from him. His brother, D.B. was a writer in Hollywood and his sister, Phoebe was bright schoolgirl.  Holden was the unpaired one out even referring to himself as the only actually dumb one(67).
