As adolescents get elderly they are expected to lose their immaturity. Some remain puerile without the realization that change is inevitable both intellectually and emotionally. They draw to resist the process of maturity itself. Salinger explores how Holden, an isolated adolescent can behave when his wealthy family is inattentive with other matters. This leads to his immaturity and ultimately, his emotional breakdown. Holden is much more than a problematic teen going through a phase. only an adolescent can make individual choices by seeking guidance from other role models. The causes of Holdens immaturity were the bomb he experienced from family, friends and women and the anxiety he felt from the realism of the adult world. Antolini punctuate the importance of his mind and his responsibly to develop change into a more mature adult. Initially Holden suffered the negative effect of neglect, isolation and alienation from his family, friends and women. His father was work-orientated and his mother had always been distant from him. His brother, D.B. was a writer in Hollywood and his sister, Phoebe was bright schoolgirl. Â Holden was the unpaired one out even referring to himself as the only actually dumb one(67). Everyone else was either intelligent or successful. He felt like he wasnt good replete to be a part of the family and as a military issue doesnt apply himself.
