The Romanticism in WordsworthRomantic poetry has very evident details which set it apart fromprevious poetry. The poem begins with the speaker system floating along, as though he or shewere a cloud, when he or she spots a crowd/ , of palmy daffodils(Wordsworth, 3,4). The speaker goes on to describe the daffodils and the lake that isbeside them. The images of the daffodils return to mind during adifficult time , and cheers him up. It is important to note that thespeaker is speaking in first person. As this is a commonly proceduredtechnique in romantic poetry, it is informal to assume that the speaker isalso the poet.One key characteristic that is shown in this poem is optimism. Thepoem begins on a melancholic note with the use of the word L onely,but takes an uplifting spirit soon after. There is an affirma tivefeeling through the rest of the poem. By using the adjective goldento describe the daffodils, one is caused to think that the daffodilsargon shining or are bright. The speaker continues by describing themas Fluttering and dancing in the strain (6) and moving in asprightly dance (12). These adjectives allow one to see them asjoyous and happy. In the next stanza, the speaker states thatalthough the waves beside the daffodils are dancing, the daffodilsout-did the sparkling waves in glee (14). The poem ends happily, with the speakers fondness being uplifted by the remembrance of the daffodils. There is much incarnation used in this poem.
