The Samurai Reincarnated

In find the breed of warriors that emerged from Japan during this era, one must consider non only how they fought, but why they fought as well. From roughly 1450 1860, a brand of soldier known as the samurai defended Japan with valiance, honor, and unforgiving loyalty. As the samurai faded into Japans history, their principles did not evaporate with them. The soldiers understood the need of dying for their cause and the concept of sacrifice. Strategically, the soldiers of foundation War Two battled in a way that displayed their high-performance skills in their craft. They proved to be unremittingly devoted to their emperor and their demesne. When analyzing their actions and motives, the soldiers of World War Two possess the true spirit of Japans samurai.
World War Two was no excommunication to the brutalities and blood shedding inflicted by war. Many Japanese, both civilians and soldiers alike, were swallowed up by the black hole of war, murdered sometimes inhumanely and seemingly without a cause, but the Japanese soldiers did fight with a motive beneficial to their country.



Japan was a small country with a rather large macrocosm (Bradley 66). Japans imperialistic nature and need for more resources to support their population led them to invade China (Second Sino-Japanese War). The Japanese soldiers understood their countrys desperate necessity for food and were willing to risk their lives, and the lives of others, for the greater good. Japanese airplanes bombed Nanking, China and killed approximately 2,000 Chinese civilians (Bradley 63). Japanese soldiers understood that lives would be lost in order to gain what they wanted.
